Rejected Tiger Cubs

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

I came across these photos of odd animal couples, and what I find odd is that 4 out of 10 pictures show tigers that have been abandoned by their mothers. Why are so many tigers rejected their babes? I tried to do a small amount of research but didn’t find any explanations. I’ll keep searching…

That Last Post

Ok, I hope you all know I was just trying to be silly with that last post. Right??

Not-so-Mysterious Smell

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

We’re about to only have two women at the office out of roughly 30 people (the third just gave her notice, and I will miss her :( ). Ok, so maybe it will be two and a half, the half being a part time office assistant type.

This means that if I poo in the bathroom, half the time there’s no question who did it. When the other woman walks in there and smells that horrible, foul stench, she’s going to think, “OMG, what did Nicole do in here??”

She’s not going to wonder which other woman ate some road kill. She’s not going to guess who squeezed out butt juice and turds, she’s just going to KNOW. How am I ever going to deal with this? I can’t not poop! I can’t wait until I get home. When there’s an emergency, you have to go! Maybe I can just claim I saw one of the guys leaving as I walked in. (They do go in there for showers sometimes, because there isn’t a shower in the men’s room).

I Hate You Hillary

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Why do I say this? Because she’s dragging this whole nominee thing on way too long. At first it was cool, yeah, she’s standing up for her right to be President. She can do it! Though I’ve been rooting for Obama the whole time, I’m still proud of her accomplishments.

But now, months later, way too far into the year, I’m tired of it. And I truly believe that her refusal to accept defeat is going to hurt Democrats in the end. I believe this because I’m writing a post about how much I hate her right now. If she actually wins, will that hatred go away? It will for me because I’m not voting for McCain, but will it go away for everyone else in my boat?

Likewise this can’t be good for Obama either. The length of this fight is really must be starting to divide potential Democratic voters. McCain was on Saturday Night Live this past weekend joking about this very point (video clip here). And I have to say, I think it’s a valid point.

Give it up Hillary!!! Give it up.

And the award for “Asshole of the Year” goes to…

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

On Monday I rode my bicycle to work for the 3rd or 4th time. It’s about 5 miles away. I usually try to follow cars through intersections because I fell I’m less likely to get hit by another car. So I was following a blue Mustang through and he got out of the intersection much faster than I could. Meanwhile the black car to the right of us was turning left. I slowed down a little because he caught me off guard, then I continued through – well so did he. He continued to plow straight into me, just hard enough to nudge my bicycle, but not knock me over.

I uttered some obscenities at him, then continued on. He followed me down the street and I wondered to myself, does he want to hit me again? He pulled in front of me, got out of his car and began taking pictures of me, yelling about how I didn’t stop at the stop sign and I hit his car. I hit his car?!?! What planet is this guy on?

I yelled back at him, because he hit me and whether or not I ran a stop sign is irrelevant. I was fuming. He didn’t care what I had to say, I needed to make it right. I can’t just run stop signs. My insurance has to pay for it, we’re going to do this the right way, YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. Oh yeah, and the damage? Could be rubbed out with rubbing compound. Not significant, at all.

A witness pulled up and got out of his car. He said he didn’t see me run the stop sign, but he did see this guy hit me.

Luckily a cop car pulled up and separated us. They took each side of the story, and gave each of us the other persons information. Said I should call my insurance company and give them his info, because they’ll probably be contacting me. And they didn’t give me a ticket for running a stop sign.

When I got home I looked into some of the bicycle laws in San Francisco. If I were to run a red light and get hit by a truck, if that truck had time to stop then he is also at fault. The man who hit me clearly had time to stop – he didn’t even knock me over. (More on these laws here)

I am convinced that this guy purposely hit me, just enough to “teach me a lesson”. Because he probably sees bicyclists going through stop signs and lights all the time, and suddenly he had the opportunity to take his frustration out on me.

Damn Murphy’s Law

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

So, naturally, because I wrote about having a lane all to myself, when I got there this morning every lane had two people in it. Some even had three. Go figure.

I managed to suck it up and swim with two others. After about two or three go arounds we were spread out evenly and it wasn’t so bad. Eventually the guy left and it was just me and a woman. And actually, I prefer swimming with women because it makes me feel faster. :p

Your Head Might Explode

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Precious Doggy

Sometimes Joe does the cutest things. So cute that I think my head is going to explode. So cute I have the desire to eat his entire head, starting with that soft, delicate ear. In this photo he has placed his head on my sweater, which I anthropomorphically interpret as him missing or loving me. Isn’t it just so freaking adorable???

Swimming Patterns

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I’ve been swimming at the YMCA in the Presidio since about November. I try to swim Monday, Wednesday and Friday, though I don’t make it if I’m sick or have to run an errand in the morning. I’ve been pretty consistent for the most part though.

Around January and February the pool got packed for obvious reasons. People made New Year’s resolutions to lose weight and were coming to the pool to do so. This annoyed me greatly, because although the pool is big I hate sharing lanes. Splitting it two ways is fine, but when you have to circle with three people it gets down right irritating. Usually the three people aren’t always going the same speed. The staff puts markers at the ends of each lane: fast, medium, and slow, but that doesn’t always mean you’re going to end up with someone that goes the same pace.

So many times I would have to slow down and wait for the person in front of me to get ahead enough for me to actually get a bit of a workout. And if the person was doing the butterfly stroke forget about it! That stroke is so damn slow. I think it should be off limits if you’re sharing with more than one person.

I was so annoyed by the increased number of people that I contemplated finding a new pool. Luckily I stuck it out though. Around March and April those folks started to peter out. And now on days like today I had an entire lane to myself during the whole session. So wonderful! Thank goodness for lazy people.

And if you are wondering how much I swim, 32 laps make a mile. I swim 24 laps, which is 3/4 of a mile.

Drawing Day 2008

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Drawing Day 2008 Apparently June 7, 2008 is the first annual Drawing Day. The goal is to promote drawing for the sake of art and get 1 million drawings together on that day. I’m going to participate and I think you should too, whether you draw or not :)

Triads

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Empty San Francisco, CA Neon
Of all the color schemes a triad of red, yellow and blue is definitely one of my favorites. Well, blue is just awesome in most cases. Like a complimentary scheme of blue and orange.

In these particular pictures, I especially love the shades of blue and red in the first shot. Those two colors together just drive me crazy! (In a good way).
