Dancing Lady Illusion

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Maniac World says it’s hard to get the dancing lady to switch back in the other direction. I think you need to focus on her feet in the reflection and look up at just the right moment (when her toe is farthest out).

Chopstick Joe
Every now and then we share our food with the doggy. He’s very delicate when he takes it. So delicate in fact, that he eats rice from chopsticks :)

Toe Update

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Wrapped in Red So this is how my toe spent the last week or so, in a red bandage and flip-flops. It’s doing a lot better for the most part. Yesterday I managed to put a real shoe on and it was only slightly sore when I bent my foot a little.

This morning I got over-confident and when I put the same shoe on, I hit it the wrong way and it really hurt. Throughout the day it continued to hurt every so often.

*Sigh* This really sucks! I especially miss riding my NEW motorcycle, not even out of break-in yet. Damnit!!!

Setting the Bone

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Today one of my co-workers, Prathibha, gave me a ride to work because I just couldn’t drive with the broken toe. About half way through the day I decided that I should go to the doctor, so I made an appointment for 4:00. Luckily Prathibha was kind enough to take me there.

Ok, actually, my mom convinced me to go to the doctor because she called the nurse hotline and explained how my toe was sticking out to the side when it broke and they said it might need to be set. So she had me a little freaked out about it. Then Steve told me that the setting hurts like hell, so I was also freaked out about that.

I was so nervous when I got there. The doctor was really nice and friendly. He took an x-ray of my foot then took a look at it. The bone was not lined up right and he wanted to set it, just as I had feared. While he gave me the local anesthetic I made conversation and he said that was an interesting way to cope with the pain. I made light of the situation and asked if it would make a “crick” sound when he set it, like in the movies. He said no.

My foot went pretty numb, but I could still kind of feel what he was doing, and the actual setting did hurt. But it was bearable. After that he wrapped it up and told me to relax tonight, keep the bandages on for one week.

I took a picture of the toe before and after he set it. And I took pictures of the x-rays before and after. Here’s the broken toe set.

Stupid Toe

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Yesterday was Steve’s birthday. We were all set to go to the Fillmore Jazz Festival to celebrate and listen to some good music. Steve was finishing up a conversation with one of his family members, sitting on the bed with the dog. I decided to rush the dog and run around the bed, when BANG! I hit my pinky toe on a chair!

&%#*%(#!

It hurt like hell! I crumpled over on the floor embracing my throbbing foot. I finally let go to look at it and the pinky toe was sticking out at about a 45 degree angle – and I thought, “uh oh, that’s not good!” It was so freaky, sticking out like that. I pushed it back towards the other toes and it just stuck right out again. Not good at all.

The weird part is that it was sort of funny. I told Steve I broke my toe and he immediately got off the phone to investigate. He came around the bed to the floor and agreed – it was both funny and broken. I laughed and cried a little (not so much from the pain, but because it was funny looking and just… all messed up).

Steve taped the little toe to the one next to it – and the little toe pulled it out! Then he taped those to the other toes, it was finally a little straight. There’s no point in going to the doctor or the hospital when you break a pinky toe, all they’re going to do is tape them and send you home. So that’s all we did. I took some aspirin and we celebrated Steve’s birthday by watching movies and Heroes all day while he waited on me. Not the greatest way to spend a birthday. Maybe Steve can break something for my birthday :(
