Photography of Motion

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

I was looking for some pictures or stills of a horse running that I remember seeing a long time ago, and finally I stumbled on the Science and Society Picture Library. Are You A Designer or a Programmer?

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

A question I wonder about every so often… Does designing in Photoshop and coding in HTML and CSS qualify you as a programmer? I personally think such a thought is an insult to programmers/developers/engineers. Knowing HTML alone does not mean you are a programmer, it just means you know how to code. Programming involves complex data manipulation often involving a database. If you are a designer and know PHP and have worked with MySQL or PostreSQL, then maybe you can call yourself a web developer at best. But programmers do so much more than simple HTML coding. Although I should also mention that I don’t think there is clear definition for these titles, especially for a designer who has a higher level of technical abilities.
