That Last Post

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Ok, I hope you all know I was just trying to be silly with that last post. Right??

Not-so-Mysterious Smell

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

We’re about to only have two women at the office out of roughly 30 people (the third just gave her notice, and I will miss her :( ). Ok, so maybe it will be two and a half, the half being a part time office assistant type.

This means that if I poo in the bathroom, half the time there’s no question who did it. When the other woman walks in there and smells that horrible, foul stench, she’s going to think, “OMG, what did Nicole do in here??”

She’s not going to wonder which other woman ate some road kill. She’s not going to guess who squeezed out butt juice and turds, she’s just going to KNOW. How am I ever going to deal with this? I can’t not poop! I can’t wait until I get home. When there’s an emergency, you have to go! Maybe I can just claim I saw one of the guys leaving as I walked in. (They do go in there for showers sometimes, because there isn’t a shower in the men’s room).

I Hate You Hillary

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Why do I say this? Because she’s dragging this whole nominee thing on way too long. At first it was cool, yeah, she’s standing up for her right to be President. She can do it! Though I’ve been rooting for Obama the whole time, I’m still proud of her accomplishments.

But now, months later, way too far into the year, I’m tired of it. And I truly believe that her refusal to accept defeat is going to hurt Democrats in the end. I believe this because I’m writing a post about how much I hate her right now. If she actually wins, will that hatred go away? It will for me because I’m not voting for McCain, but will it go away for everyone else in my boat?

Likewise this can’t be good for Obama either. The length of this fight is really must be starting to divide potential Democratic voters. McCain was on Saturday Night Live this past weekend joking about this very point (video clip here). And I have to say, I think it’s a valid point.

Give it up Hillary!!! Give it up.

And the award for “Asshole of the Year” goes to…

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

On Monday I rode my bicycle to work for the 3rd or 4th time. It’s about 5 miles away. I usually try to follow cars through intersections because I fell I’m less likely to get hit by another car. So I was following a blue Mustang through and he got out of the intersection much faster than I could. Meanwhile the black car to the right of us was turning left. I slowed down a little because he caught me off guard, then I continued through - well so did he. He continued to plow straight into me, just hard enough to nudge my bicycle, but not knock me over.

I uttered some obscenities at him, then continued on. He followed me down the street and I wondered to myself, does he want to hit me again? He pulled in front of me, got out of his car and began taking pictures of me, yelling about how I didn’t stop at the stop sign and I hit his car. I hit his car?!?! What planet is this guy on?

I yelled back at him, because he hit me and whether or not I ran a stop sign is irrelevant. I was fuming. He didn’t care what I had to say, I needed to make it right. I can’t just run stop signs. My insurance has to pay for it, we’re going to do this the right way, YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. Oh yeah, and the damage? Could be rubbed out with rubbing compound. Not significant, at all.

A witness pulled up and got out of his car. He said he didn’t see me run the stop sign, but he did see this guy hit me.

Luckily a cop car pulled up and separated us. They took each side of the story, and gave each of us the other persons information. Said I should call my insurance company and give them his info, because they’ll probably be contacting me. And they didn’t give me a ticket for running a stop sign.

When I got home I looked into some of the bicycle laws in San Francisco. If I were to run a red light and get hit by a truck, if that truck had time to stop then he is also at fault. The man who hit me clearly had time to stop - he didn’t even knock me over. (More on these laws here)

I am convinced that this guy purposely hit me, just enough to “teach me a lesson”. Because he probably sees bicyclists going through stop signs and lights all the time, and suddenly he had the opportunity to take his frustration out on me.

Post #13 (50-100-50 - btw, I clearly suck at this challenge)

And Then Sunday

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Sunday that cold I suspected on Saturday kicked in. I spent the entire day on the couch. Steve went on a motorcycle ride and said I would have been too cold even if I was healthy enough to go. And that’s about it.

I’m not always so good about the “100″ words part. Oh well.

Ridiculous x 1000

Friday, March 14th, 2008

The condo saga continues. Today “Bob” left a notice of eviction on our door. For a property that he doesn’t own. Isn’t that hilarious? This story just keeps going!

An Update on our Living Situation

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Because I know you’re all just dying to know ;)

For a while there we were hoping that the bank or funding company that owns the condo now wouldn’t ask for rent. Because banks aren’t in the renting business, they are in the selling business. Well, that turned out to be BS. The bank’s lawyer called last week to ask for all the rent from Oct to present. And we were hoping for a freebie :(

As for the condo, they still plan on selling it (with us in it). But I don’t think it has been listed yet. It would be great if we could buy it, but we don’t have a down payment. And if we were going to take the plunge I’d rather look around some to make sure we are getting the best home possible. Not that we don’t like this place. I’m going to be very sad, and angry to move out.

Which reminds me, our unit came with a storage locker that our old landlord “Bob” refused to hand over. This past weekend we finally got in there, and guess what we found? You’re thinking it’s packed full of stuff right? Maybe some gold bullions or a box full of jewels? No, no my friend. The only thing in there is a medium sized box of clothes. He made our lives miserable (I asked him to get his stuff out repeatedly), for a stupid box of stinky clothes. That bastard.

Oh yeah, and one more thing. Up until about a week or two ago he was STILL asking for rent. Rent plus late dues, actually. We have a copy of the deed, we know he doesn’t own it. He’s clearly on crack, or believes we are for thinking we’d actually give him money.

Twice a Witness

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Yesterday I saw another accident, the second one I’ve ever seen (the first was in 2005). It happened right in front me. Had I not been paying attention I surely would have been a part of it.

I was on my way home and sitting at a stop light, the middle lane of three. There was a car (car #1) going through the intersection very slowly when the light changed. I think he was going slow because maybe he wanted to turn, but wasn’t sure. He realized the light must have changed because the car to my left and I started inching forward. So car #1 finally decided to go straight and darted forward.

Meanwhile, in the empty lane to my right, car #2 was coming through the green light. BAM! Car #1, darting forward, was hit in the passenger door by car #2, driving through a green light. The collision caused car #1 to also crash into the traffic light pole (in the center of the road), causing the traffic light itself to crash to the ground (I’ve heard those can cost between $40,000 and $75,000). I drew a diagram to help my explanation (below).

I immediately went through the intersection and pulled over, so did the car to the left of me. I grabbed two of my business cards and got out to make sure everyone was OK. There were a lot of people around, pedestrians and motorists alike. Several people got on their cells to call the cops.

Car #1 had a couple in it, the woman was in the passenger seat and she looked pretty dazed and confused, sitting on a chair on the sidewalk. Her husband didn’t look too good either. When I asked if he was driving, he just mumbled a little. Car #2 had a father and son. The father, all shook up, kept saying, “it was green right?” His poor son had a bloody nose.

Knowing how long the cops take to come around and deal with these things, I decided to give both drivers my business card and leave. Later that night a police officer called me to get the story from my perspective. I told it to him the same way I told you and he seemed to really appreciate the information. Hopefully I was able to clear a few things up for him.

Housing Update

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

To give you all a little update on the housing situation, the original realtor has been in touch and wants to come over to take pictures. As it turns out, the funding company is going to sell the condo occupied. So it looks like we’ll have to pay rent to whom ever buys it, then we’ll probably have to move out when the lease ends, which is Sept. 30, five days before our wedding. I don’t think I’ll want to add the stress of moving to the stress I’ll already be under. So most likely we’ll try to move before that. Do you have any idea how extremely angry all of this makes me? Apartment hunting, again!?!?! Boo :(
